About this research review

High blood pressure, or hypertension, is one of the world’s most common health concerns, affecting more than 1.4 billion people globally. In Australia, around 39% of adults are estimated to have hypertension – equivalent to approximately 7.2 million people.

Hypertension is also a major contributor to the global burden of disease, accounting for around 7.8% of total disability-adjusted life years.

In this Research Review Series of The Healthy Handful podcast, we take a deep dive into a new systematic literature review and meta-analysis by Metoudi et al., published in the British Journal of Nutrition.

This review provides the most recent assessment of the evidence examining whether nut consumption can influence blood pressure.
