Chestnuts
Chestnuts are quite different from other nuts, both nutritionally and culinarily. Nutritionally, they are closer to whole grains. And taste-wise,…
All raw and roasted unsalted nuts usually score a Health Star Rating of between 4 and 5 stars. Sometimes, due to the natural nutrient variations in fresh produce between seasons, the Health Star Rating may vary.
Health Star Ratings were originally designed for processed and packaged foods, not for fresh produce which cannot be reformulated.
Health Star Ratings are calculated per 100g according to the amount of energy, saturated fat, sugar and sodium (considered negative nutrients) in a product; and the amount of protein, fibre and the percentage of fruits/vegetables/nuts/legumes the product contains (considered positive nutrients).
Unfortunately for some nuts, they lose stars because of their natural saturated fat content. Salted nuts may also lose half a star compared to their unsalted counterparts.
